Wood Flooring a Popular Trend Throughout House

Q. What type of wood flooring is popular and in what tone (dark, midtone, light)? I am looking to update my home.

A. Hardwood floors are a trend even for kitchen remodels. Lighter shades of wood are making a comeback — natural-colored woods such as ash, aspen, maple and elm.

Beyond shades of brown, the finished colors include whites, browns, blacks, grays and reds. The staining colors for unfinished flooring are endless, but resale should be a consideration. Attractive flooring is a top item a potential buyer is looking for, and wood flooring adds resale value.

Help! We Never Use this Room

One of the most popular requests that motivates picking up the phone to schedule a consultation is “the room that no one uses.” That room is usually the living room.

Next month is my eighth anniversary in business. My very first decorating client was a couple who put a beautiful addition on their house that no one ever sat in. You could see the space from the kitchen, but guests never gravitated to it.

The problem was obvious to me. Although the new addition was beautiful, the seating area was to the right of the open space, tucked away near the fireplace. The open area was empty waiting for their future pool table. There was nothing to draw guests into the space.

My suggestion was to switch the seating area with the pool table spot. The seating area would be a welcoming draw for guests to sit and mingle. They made the switch and loved it.

Fall Back in Love with Your Home!

Recently featured in the Town Of Montgomery Chamber of Commerce!

Claudia Jacobs of Claudia Jacobs Designs LLC presented “Fall Back in Love with Your Home” at the Hudson Valley Builders Association on Saturday April 6, 2013. The turnout for this event was amazing with a full house and additional seating needing to be pulled out. She spoke about simple changes you could make to your home that are extremely cost efficient such as changing the hardware on your cabinets, replacing your light fixtures, painting your cabinets, etc…

The event was very informative with professionals on hand to talk to you about low cost options they may be able to assist you with if you are not a DIY type of person. On hand were Lisa-Ann LaBue of Wells Fargo Bank, Scott Santarpia of Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling, Michael R Berta, AIA Architecture & Planning and Janis Borguetta of Key Properties of the Hudson Valley LLC. All had amazing ideas and offered answers to the many questions that were asked.

Hat’s off to Claudia and congratulations on a very successful event. All who attended took a lot of good information away with them.info@claudiajacobsdesigns.com

No Place Like Home

The one thing we can control is our own personal space. Working with clients from all walks of lives has been truly inspiring. Yes I inspire them but they also inspire me.

Whether you have the money or not, most people can’t or don’t want to spend money unnecessarily these days.

There is the single mother trying to create a comfortable home for her children, the young couple living in their first home with champagne taste but not having the money to splurge just yet and the widow who wants an elegant, comfortable home for less. There is the recently divorced dad trying to make his new situation comfortable for his children when they are with him and the couple wanting to update their home so they can enjoy it now and sell in the future.
