The everlasting patina of the Country Living Fair

The 3-day Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck is filled with antiques, vintage, rustic and handmade items where the pages of Country Living Magazine come to life. The fair is held the first weekend in June.

Walking through the many barns of dealer exhibits and outdoor displays is overwhelming. Shabby is still chic along with the popular Farm House style.

Pickers go to estate and barn sales, do clean outs and gather the items to sell at these events. There is something about the patina of an item with history, even if it is unknown. It has character. From quaint country to odd curiosities, one man’s trash is another’s treasure.

Let’s compare pickers to a farmer’s market. You can grow your own but farmers make their livelihood by growing and selling their product. The same goes for pickers. You can scour sales or have fun shopping in a nicely displayed booth or store whether at an event like the Country Living Fair or a local antique shop.

A few local dealers had booths at the fair. You can wait till next year or find them locally all year round. They all can be found on Social Media sharing their finds.

Sydney Waitt Ouellette of Fox Run Antiques says, “The Country Living Fair was a great success for me not only in sales of the antiques but in meeting customers from outside the area who might not otherwise hear of my business. It’s also an opportunity to be creative and set up a ‘shop’ to display the style that Fox Run Antiques exemplifies. It makes customers want to see what other treasures I have to offer at the shops I’m in.”
